Zimmer Loses Wife but Will Coach Sunday

Posted by Jacob Houseman On October 10, 2009

Jack Brennan, Cincinnati team spokesman, confirmed that Mike Zimmer, defensive coordinator for the Bengals, traveled with the team on Saturday and will be coaching in Sunday’s game versus the Ravens.

Late Thursday Vikki, Zimmer’s wife, died. It was questionable whether Zimmer would be coaching in this week’s AFC North showdown for first place.

Zimmer, who kept his family close by, traveled with Bill, his father, Adam, a son, and Corri, his daughter. Another son of Zimmer’s as well as his mother stayed in Cincinnati.

Zimmer’s wife, Vikki Zimmer, 50, passed away while at home. There have been no details released regarding her death. Funeral arrangements were still being finalized.

It is Zimmer’s second season as the defensive coordinator for the Bengals. In 2007 he held the same position with the Atlanta Falcons, and prior to that for seven years with the Dallas Cowboys. Zimmer was on the Cowboys coaching staff from 1994 to 2006.
