The upcoming lame duck season for Marvin Lewis has continued to be one of this year’s more under reported stories at a time when media hacks love to make mountains from mole hills.

Since Scouting Combine there haven’t been any updates to the situation. However on Tuesday Lewis did confirm that there are ongoing talks.

According to Cincinnati Enquirer’s Joe Reedy Lewis said hopefully at some point I and Mike Brown will be able to reach an agreement that both sides feel good about. Since then we have talked about a contract a couple times, however it isn’t something we talk about every day. I don’t worry about that or bring that up. That’s not how I go about things.

Lewis, fresh from the playoffs last year, has lots of leverage. He may be hoping as part of his new deal that he can push organizational changes through. If Lewis doesn’t get a contract before the regular season starts coaching free agency may be very tempting.

Lewis said, I would love continuing to coach here. Every year I think brings new challenges, new beginnings. Hell we have Ocho here.

Is that really a reason for him to stay?

This year it appears the Bengal may struggle in selling out their home games, similar to last year's struggle where we witnessed several extensions at the last minute and local companies turning into saviors by buying tickets in bulk. Last month the team attempted to hold an open house so that prospective buyers could check the stadium and the open seats out. Next they started to sell ticket packs of four games. A couple weeks ago they went to selling game packs of two games. The degradation could be caused by a number of things. The team has now announced that single game tickets can be purchased starting on Saturday.

Each series of events could be interpreted as a sign that this year the team will be struggling to sell out once again. What this means is the Bengals need to fire out right at the start in a full blaze of glory in order to keep their fans from turning away during the latter part of the season should the team fall below expectations. The fact that teams like the Miami Dolphins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Buffalo Bills are some of the teams visiting Paul Brown Stadium doesn't help, as these teams don't have much of a fan presence in Cincinnati or the surrounding area.

Each series of events could be interpreted as a sign that this year the team will be struggling to sell out once again. What this means is the Bengals need to fire out right at the start in a full blaze of glory in order to keep their fans from turning away during the latter part of the season should the team fall below expectations. The fact that teams like the Miami Dolphins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Buffalo Bills are some of the teams visiting Paul Brown Stadium doesn’t help, as these teams don’t have much of a fan presence in Cincinnati or the surrounding area.

I don’t personally feel the need to demand that you buy tickets in order to support the Bengals and keep their sell out streak going. Family, time and money, as well as watching Bengals games from home and not having to worry about parking are all issues that make buying tickets debatable. If you want to go and can afford to, you will buy tickets. If not, you aren’t any less a true fan.

The arrest was reported by Austin American Statesman on the basis of an affidavit detailing the alleged assault in which Benson has been accused of punching one of the bar’s employees after he was asked to leave after an altercation.

Benson along with another bar patron were separated by employees. According to the affidavit Benson pushed one of the employees as he attempted to continue with the fight. He also spit blood that was on his lip on an employee.

Benson was asked by the bar staff several times to leave. The affidavit said after Benson refused to leave, he was escorted from the bar.

After Benson left the bar, he hit the employee on the left side of his face using his right fist.

Bail was posted by Benson and he was released. The Statesman connected with Benson by phone, however he offered no comment.

Following two 2008 arrest, the Bears cut Benson. Later that year, he was signed by the Bengals. In 2009 Benson rushed for 1,251 yards, his best season ever.

Julian Bailes, BIRI director and West Virginia University chairman of neurosurgery said, if there had been negative results it would have made us happy, however multiple areas in the brain of Chris Henry showed CTE.

According to scientists from West Virginia University’s Brain Injury Research Institute, Chris Henry, former wide receiver of the Cincinnati Bengal who died last year during a traffic accident, at the time that he died was suffering from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (or CTE). The degenerative brain damage was the result of multiple hits to his head.

Julian Bailes, BIRI director and West Virginia University chairman of neurosurgery said, if there had been negative results it would have made us happy, however multiple areas in the brain of Chris Henry showed CTE. On Monday afternoon during a news conference the results from the forensic examination were presented by Bailes and colleagues.

CTE has been discovered by researchers in brains of over 50 deceased ex athletes. They include over a dozen college and NFL players, Chris Benoit, pro wrestler, and Reggie Fleming NHL player.

According to researchers, the only thing that is known to cause CTE is multiple blows to someone’s head. Concussive hits can cause toxic tau protein buildup inside the brain. This can then create damaging threads and tangles in the brain’s neural fibers which connect the brain tissue. This can cause victims to suffer memory loss, depression, lose control of impulses and develop dementia ultimately.

During the Monday news conference, Bailes said that Henry’s WVU and NFL records did not show that he had ever been diagnosed with suffering from a concussion while playing college or pro football.

However colliding with another player isn’t necessary in order for a brain trauma to take place.

BIRI co-director and neuropathologist Bennet Omalu said, inside your skill your brain floats freely. The brain bounces if you are moving quickly and then stop suddenly.

Although the links between behavior and CTE are being studied still, many former athletes who have been diagnosed with this type of brain damage did die under unusual circumstances. For example Justin Strzelczyk, ex-Steeler, was killed during accident in 2004 after he experienced hallucinations which led to his high speed chase with police for 40 miles that ended with him colliding with a tanker truck. Benoit in 2007 strangled his son and wife then placed Bibles next to them before hanging himself. In 2008 Tom McHale, NFL guard who played for three different teams, was remembered as dependable and smart by teammates. He sank into depression before dying from a multiple drug overdose.

On December 17, 2009, 26 year old Chris Henry died the day after he fell or jumped from the back end of a pickup truck that Loleini Tonga, his fiancee, was driving. The pair had been engaged in a dispute. Tonga then went to the truck with Henry jumping in. Reporters were told by a witness that Henry had threatened that if she took off he would jump from the truck to kill himself.

Whether Henry fell or jumped still isn’t clear. Tonga was driving around 19 mph when Henry fell to the ground. He suffered massive head injuries and a fractured skull. The incident was ruled by police as an accident. The toxicology report showed no alcohol traces. No other drug tests were done. Tonga was not charged in the incident.

After Henry died Carolyn Henry Glaspy, his mother, gave permission for BIRI to thoroughly examine Henry’s brain.

Only an autopsy can pinpoint CTE. A regular postmortem analysis will not show the effects. However cell-stained techniques that were developed and discovered by Omalu allows scientists to see telltale tangles and dangerous tau proteins that are characteristics of CTE. After brain cells are stained, normal ones are uncluttered and blue under the microscope. The brain cells of Henry’s, according to researchers, were clumpy, filled with threads and discolored.

Bailes, as well as Henry’s fans, friends and family will likely wonder if the neural damage he suffered caused some of his emotional volatility he had shown, as well as the problems he suffered the day of his death.

Bailes said, I think they did. Superimposed over the severe brain injuries suffered by Chris at the time he died, throughout his brain there was extensive damage that is completely consistent with CTE. The syndrome is expressed by brain changes but also behavior changes as well. Beginning with Mike Webster, common threads have been seen in these cases: depression, emotional disturbances, failed businesses and personal relationships, suicidal thoughts, and drug or alcohol use.

On Sunday Glaspy said, I am trying to just find out what happened and learn about the situation of Chris’ brain. I am willing to do whatever I can to help anybody else going through this.

Glaspy said during the news conference that the results had been a big shock to her. She didn’t know anything about the disease or underlying condition that her 26 year old son was suffering from.

She said I was kind of scared. It is new to me. I am trying still to educate myself to understand what this means. Some of it does make sense in terms of some of Chris’ behavioral patterns, like his headaches and mood swings.

I hopefully will be able to share with other parents what they tell me and also help the NFL with dealing with concussions and hits to the head and educate ourselves as fathers and mothers when our kids go out to the field to play.

The NFL for years, along with their affiliated researchers, challenged scientific evidence that linked concussions with long term brain damage. Earlier this month, however, Richard Ellenbogen, co-chair of the NFL’s Head Neck and Spine Committee said in regards to reports of former players suffering from CTE, they are facts, not hype or assertions.

The league announced in April that they were giving a gift of $1 million to Boston University’s Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy.

Henry, a Belle Chasse, LA native, played his college football at West Virginia. In 2005 the Bengals selected him in the third round. He played in the NFL for five very tumultuous seasons. During his professional career, he had five arrests. He was suspended by Roger Goodell, NFL commissioner, in 2007 for part of the season due to Henry’s violation of the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

The Bengals brought Henry back in 2008. He vowed he would put his anger management issues and substance abuse behind him. According to Bengals officials and teammates he was succeeding.

Bailes, a former team doctor of the Pittsburgh Steelers and current West Virginia team doctor, said his goal is for helping to make football a safer sport.

Bailes said I think that football is a really great sport. I want to help make it safer. We need to continue moving forward with changes as well as eliminate head impacts from football as much as we possibly can.

First Round: TE Jermaine Gresham, Oklahoma

This is no surprise. Gresham is the number one consensus tight end from this year's draft. The Bengals desperately needed one. Gresham as a pass catcher is dynamic and in college was extremely productive. He is also solid as an in-line blocker, which is something that the Bob Bratkowski offense needs.
First Round: TE Jermaine Gresham, Oklahoma

This is no surprise. Gresham is the number one consensus tight end from this year’s draft. The Bengals desperately needed one. Gresham as a pass catcher is dynamic and in college was extremely productive. He is also solid as an in-line blocker, which is something that the Bob Bratkowski offense needs. The right choice was Gresham, although some people might have preferred to have Dez Bryant in this position.

Lindy Pro Football Draft: 1st
Pro Football’s Draft Guide: 1st
Sporting News Draft: 3rd

Second Round: DE Carlos Dunlap, Florida

Although there are concerns due to Dunlap’s inconsistent motor and off-field issues, his talent and athleticism were a great second round value. Many had projected Dunlap as a pick late in the first round. He has been compared to Javon Kearse as well as Michael Johnson, the third round pick from last year. In Gainesville Dunlap had four blocked kicks and 19.5 sacks. On downs that are obvious passing situations he can slide inside. Dunlap overall is considered to be a prospect that is boom or bust. However he was worth selecting towards the ending of the second round.

Position Draft Publication Rankings:

Lindy Pro Football Draft: 2nd
Pro Football’s Draft Guide: 3rd
Sporting News Draft: 8th

Third Round (a): WR Jordan Shipley, Texas

Shipley is a friend of Quan Cosby, former Texas WR and current Bengal. He may end up taking his roster spot. Shipley is quite a polished player, has outstanding hands, runs excellent routes and compared to Cosby, is accomplished as a punt returner. In 2009 Shipley posted huge numbers with the undefeated Texas Longhorns. Shipley could very well have an immediate impact from the slot and on special teams. In the slot he has the potential of surpassingg Andre Caldwell as Carson Palmer’s reliable check down field option something Palmer has been search for since the departure of TJ Houshmandzadeh.

Position Draft Publication Rankings:

Lindy Pro Football Draft: 8th
Pro Football’s Draft Guide: 12th
Sporting News Draft: 14th

Third Round (b): DB Brandon Ghee, Wake Forest

The misery of Glee’s was ended by the Bengals when they selected him towards the end of the third round, which allowed the last prospect in attendance at the draft to come onto the stage. Although he had just one interception in his Demon Deacon career, Ghee does have the speed and size to be one of the NFL’s elite cornerbacks. Ghee is a sure tackler and some view him to be an NFL level safety. However Kevin Coyle, defensive backs coach, says he will be starting out primarily as Morgan Trent’s competition for the nickel corner position.

Position Draft Publication Rankings:

Lindy Pro Football Draft: 11th
Pro Football’s Draft Guide: 12th
Sporting News Draft: 17th

Fourth Round (a) DT Geno Atkins, Georgia

The Georgia Bulldog’s are obviously one of the favorite college programs of the Bengals. Atkins out of Georgia is small for a defensive tackle, however he makes up for that being highly productive and has exceptional quickness. Atkins should compete for time with Pat Sims for the tackle rotation.

Position Draft Publication Rankings:

Lindy Pro Football Draft: 14th
Pro Football’s Draft Guide: 13th
Sporting News Draft: 5th

Fourth Round (b): LB Roddrick Muckelroy, Texas

This pick leaves me scratching my head a bit. The team appears to have lots of good linebackers, especially with Will in the projected spot for Muckelroy. However, the ex Longhorn will get the opportunity for earning a special teams spot and also given the opportunity for challenging for a defensive spot in the pre-season. This may be part of the post Dhani Jones linebacker corps era preparations.

Position Draft Publication Rankings:

Lindy Pro Football Draft: 12th
Pro Football’s Draft Guide: 11th
Sporting News Draft: 15th

Fifth Round: OG Otis Hudson, Eastern Illinois

Definitely the Bengals needed to add youth and depth to their interior offensive line. The Hudson selection was one of two additions. Paul Alexander, offensive line coach for the Bengals, love the work ethic and size of Hudson. He could be Bobbie Williams’ heir apparent at right guard. Based on the pre-draft publication ranks, Hudson may be a stretch.

Position Draft Publication Rankings:

Lindy Pro Football Draft: Not Ranked
Pro Football’s Draft Guide: Not Ranked
Sporting News Draft: Not Ranked

Sixth Round: WR Dezmon Briscoe, Kansas

Cincinnati was surprised that Briscoe was still available during the sixth round. They selected him despite the fact that it crowds their wide-out squad even more than it already was. Under Mike Mangino Briscoe was very productive. His slip in the draft was due to off-field behavior and slow forty time. According to Marvin Lewis, Mangino and the team have a great relationship and have better insight as far the transgressions of the young man go than other teams do. One thing about Briscoe is certain: his 6-3, 200 pounds is a size that the team desires. Even if Briscoe turns out to be a wash out, getting him here was an exceptional value.

Position Draft Publication Rankings:

Lindy Pro Football Draft: 13th
Pro Football’s Draft Guide: 15th
Sporting News Draft: 11th

Seventh Round: G-C Reggie Stephens, Iowa State

Stephens adds more depth to the interior offensive line, and brings a lot of experience and flexibility. He was a starter since his freshman year and played all three of the spots on the interior. Part of the reason Stephens slid in the draft was due to Iowa State’s lackluster offense. However his size should enable him in July to make the team’s practice squad at least. Stephens was another pick with great value.

Position Draft Publication Rankings:

Lindy Pro Football Draft: Ranked as Worth Watching
Pro Football’s Draft Guide: 18th
Sporting News Draft: Not Ranked

Analysis

Solid play makers were added to the Bengals offense: Gresham will help Palmer by opening things up and provide Bob Bratkowski with additional flexibility for his play calling. Briscoe and Shipley may provide quality snaps as well as push Jerome Simpson and Andre Caldwell.

More Beef: Stephens and Hudson add depth behind Nate Livings, Evan Mathis, Kyle Cook and Bobbie Williams. Stephens could end up replacing Jonathan Luig as back up for Cook.

Zim got more horses: Mike Zimmer receiver additions on all three defensive levels. The gem from the bunch is Dunlap. For a while, Zimmer has been attempting for more pass rush. Atkins and Dunlap will should both be able to help in that department.

No safeties added: The Bengals may add a safety or two out of the undrafted pool. However, it is somewhat surprising that the team didn’t draft any, especially considering that some viewed the safety position as one of the top 3 needs. Ghee may have potential as a safety.

No fullbacks drafted: the team also didn’t draft any fullbacks, and Jeremi Johnson hasn’t been re-signed. It will be interesting during the weeks ahead seeing who is brought in to compete against Fui Vakapuna.

Players who should get month-to-month leases in Cincinnati: Dan Stantucci Dan coats and Jerome Simpson. With all the new options, their futures in Cincinnati are doubtful.

Mark Sanchez, after just one career playoff game, is giving an off-Broadway performance that is pretty good.

The other New York Jets are as well. No longer are they a team that is overlooked, after they defeated AFC North champion Cincinnati twice in a week.

Are there still doubters out there?

The Jets, with rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez playing error free, turned their surprising appearance in the playoffs on Saturday into a production with a long run. Sanchez had a touchdown pass, with the top running game in the NFL taking it from there to set up the Jets 24-14 win over the Bengals.

Sanchez said, it’s very special. I don’t have anything to do with it.

Actually the first playoff win for the Jets since 2004 did have something to do with Sanchez.

Sanchez, who was playing in wind chill in single digits versus a defense trying their best to get the game into his hands, was 12 for 15 and passed for 182 yards, giving him a 139.4 passer rating.

Sanchez was considered the weakest link for the Jets as they entered the playoffs. However he became the team’s focal point and got his first win in the playoffs before Carson Palmer, his idol from childhood.

Rex Ryan, Jets coach said today he had the tiger’s eye. He was ready. Every day I watch him get better and better in practice. He has done a great job. He is tired I think hearing that he is this football team’s weak link.

Other rookies for the Jets made plays under pressure. Shonn Greene, third round pick, rushed for 135 yards and scored a touchdown on a run of 39 yards to lead the Jets running game. New York rushed for 171 yards while defeating the Bengals back to back.

For the Bengals, Cedric Benson rushed for 169 yards, setting a playoff game team record. However Cincinnati wasn’t able to manage much else. Their streak of not having a playoff win is at 19 years and still counting.

What about the Jets?

Palmer said, they may have an opportunity for making a move. The Bengals quarterback during much of the game was under pressure and off-target. Their defense is really good.

You can take the word of Palmer’s on that.

Six days earlier the Bengals took a trip to the Meadowlands and were flattened. New York rushed for 257 yards while the Bengals only managed to get 72 yards. Chad Ochocinco was shut out. In the second match up not much changed. In the rematch Ochocinco caught only two passes for a total of 28 yards.

Ryan, winning his head coach playoff debut said, it was a great effort by the entire team. We are a very good team. People will start to believe that soon if they don’t already.

The Jets shouldn’t be counted out by anyone now, not like two weeks ago when their own coach did. Sanchez threw three interceptions and the Jets lost to the Falcons 10-7. Ryan thought his team was out of playoff contention. However, after that everything lined up in the Jets favor.

A week later Indianapolis pulled their starters from the game. The Jets then rallied to get the win. At the same time, four other teams that were playoff contenders lost their games. The Bengals then visited the Meadowlands, losing 37-0 having little at stake.

Buddy, the father of Rex Ryan, was the 1969 Jets defensive line coach. That was the Jets team that won a Super Bowl after Broadway Joe Namath guaranteed the victory. The Jets entered the playoffs more like a show from off-Broadway, with their lack of a star quarterback to deliver a win.

That is until Saturday’s game.

Sanchez played like a playoff pro and joined thee ranks of Ben Roethlisberger, Joe Flacco and Shaun King as rookie quarterbacks with postseason start wins. Sanchez at times found himself soaking things in from the sideline.

Sanchez said it blows your mind. It’s so unbelievable. I am hoping next week I will have this feeling.

Sanchez was the lowest ranked passer by far in the playoffs. During his rookie season he threw 20 interceptions, second highest in the league. Cincinnati wanted the game placed in his hands. However the Southern California kid played in a wind chill of 8 degrees with his passing hand having no glove on it and handled it all with no bobbles.

The team presented owner Woody Johnson with the game ball after the game. Johnson’s daughter Casey on Monday was discovered dead at her home in Los Angeles. Johnson had red eyes as he exited the locker room.

At the outset the Jets had a scare. Punter Steve Weatherford was not cleared to play due to an elevated heartbeat and dizziness. For the very first time in kicker Jay Feely’s NFL career he punted. On seven kicks he averaged 31 yards and made a field goal of 20 yards with 5:47 to play.

Feely said I was very happy to be kicking the field goal at that point instead of punting. It was great.

Weatherford did attempt to warm up in the wind chill of single digits, but didn’t feel good.

Weatherford said, I got lightheaded and my heart rate was elevated. It wasn’t anything that was life threatening but when it comes to your heart…

By halftime the Jets had a 14-7 lead on two big plays involving Sanchez. After faking a hand off he pitched the ball perfectly to Greene, who after one block found an open space and ran for 39 yards to score a touchdown, the longest in his NFL career.

Sanchez during the second quarter was able to catch Cincinnati off guard. After rolling to the right, Sanchez spotted Dustin Keller, tight end, running past the secondary uncovered. He threw a perfect pass. Keller was able to keep his balance for the final 15 yards after Chinedum Ndukwe, Bengals safety, attempted in vain to push Keller out of bounds.

Sanchez at halftime was 7 for 10 with 94 yards passing and a 132.9 passer rating. His stats could have been better if Braylon Edwards hadn’t dropped a pass inside the end zone.

Late third quarter Sanchez led the Jets on a 75 yard, eight play drive which was capped off by a 9 yard touchdown run by Thomas Jones to give the Jets a lead of 21-7. Benson then had a touchdown run of 47 yards, the longest playoff run in Cincinnati team history, to get the Bengals to within a touchdown. However Greene and Sanchez turned it up again.

The ending of the game involved some more serendipity for the Jets. Shayne Graham, franchise tagged player of the Bengals, during the second half missed two field goal attempts, including one from 28 yards with 3:49 left to play, essentially sealing the Jets victory.

With their lucky breaks and everything, the Sanchise and Rex are heading to the playoffs.

It it the same old Jets? No, not this time around.

The top ranked defense of Rex Ryan’s shut the Bengals down, while rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez was very efficient in leading the clock eating offense as the Jets clinched the first playoff spot for the team in three seasons on Sunday night with their 37-0 defeat at chilly Meadowlands.

Sanchez said, this is a very special feeling. People were counting us out a couple weeks ago.

The Jets (9-7) needed a win in order to keep their season alive. Fans braved Arctic conditions to watch the Jets get their rematch set up against the Bengals (10-6), AFC North champion, for Saturday’s first round game in Cincinnati.

Ryan, who is headed to the playoffs as a first year coach of the Jets said, our goal wasn’t making the playoffs. We have much higher goals. At one point our record was 4-6. Our mission for the team was impossible then went to improbable and then back to being impossible and finally inevitable.

After spending a couple minutes in their lock room, Jets players were led back to the field by Ryan. They ran a victory lap to celebrate and high fived the several thousand fans remaining in the stands.

Darrelle Revis, Jets cornerback, said it was great. We need to give something back to our fans who stuck with us.

New York’s victory, which was recognized with Ryan getting his sideline Gatorade shower, was probably the last game the team will play at Giants Stadium. It capped off an entire series of twists and turns that were favorable for the Jets.

Two weeks ago it appeared that the Jets were out of the playoff race when they lost to the Falcons. Even Ryan said mistakenly that the team’s chance to make the playoffs were over.

The Jets instead last Sunday defeated Indianapolis, who was previously undefeated, when Peyton Manning along with a few other stars for the Colts were sent to the bench during the second half of the game. Several other teams contending for the playoffs lost, which set up the win-and-in game for the Jets versus the Bengals.

Ryan said I don’t think we backed in. We will try to go out there and prove that.

Chad Ochocinco, Bengals wide receiver, said Cincinnati would be ready for the Jets.

He said, we will be fine. We will study things that we can fix, particularly on the offense. We are going to be much more serious next week.

Earlier this week Braylon Edwards, Jets wide receiver, said the Jets wouldn’t lose. He was backed up by his teammates in a big way.

Sanchez said, the team we are playing again is a great team. We need to prepare ourselves for the dog fight in their place.

The shutout at home was the first for the Jets since December 14, 2003 when they defeated the Steelers 6-0. After the game the sky was filled with white and green confetti, with fans waving white rally towels that said in green “Win And We’re In.”

Sanchez went 8 out of 16 for a total of 63 yards passing and had no turnovers. Late fourth quarter Kellen Clemens replaced him with the game under control. Thomas Jones rushed for 78 yards and scored two touchdowns. Brad Smith, versatile wide receiver, rushed for 92 yards, including a touchdown run of 32 yards. The Jets set a season rushing yards record.

The Bengals started the game playing a majority of their starters. Cedric Benson, running back, was the only Bengal healthy starter that didn’t play. However early third quarter Carson Palmer was pulled. When he was playing Palmer was ineffective, He was only 1 out of 11 and had zero passing yards before being replaced by J.T. O’Sullivan.

During the first quarter, the Bengals only ran three plays and the Jets ran 24. The Jets also out gained the Bengals 138 yards versus 1 yard for Cincinnati. At halftime the Jets had 250 yards, with 190 coming from the ground game. The Bengals had just 7 yards.

The record for the Bengals at Giants Stadium dropped to 0-11, including an 0-8 record versus the Jets.

Marvin Lewis, Bengals coach said, that wasn’t the outcome that we wanted to have. In all three aspects of the game we were outplayed by the Jets. Now we have an opportunity to regroup before next Saturday afternoon to get going again.

On the Jets first possession they got things started. Smith inside the TigerCat formation took the snap directly on third down and 7 at the Jet’s 42 yard line. After taking a couple steps to the right he then moved up the middle. Johnathan Joseph and Leon Hall took him down on the one yard line. Then Jones went over the top to score the touchdown.

A field goal of 20 yards from Jay Feely early second quarter made the score 10-0. It capped off an 11 minute, 21 play drive.

The 32 yard run for a touchdown by Smith gave New York a 17-0 lead. Smith lined up in the quarterback position, taking the snap from centerr, then took off and ran over Bengals linebacker Rashad Jeanty before crossing into the end zone.

With 37 seconds left to play first half, Jerricho Cotchery scored on a 6 yard run to make the score 24-0. The Jets got the football back right away. On the Bengals next scrimmage play, Dwight Lowery intercepted Palmer’s pass, returning the ball 34 yards before being pushed out of bounds by Palmer. Feely, three plays later, kicked a field goal of 39 yards. The Jets went into halftime with a 27 point lead.

With just under 10 minutes to play in the game a touchdown run of 2 yards was added by Jones to make the score 37-0. It was the 14th rushing touchdown for Jones and set a Jets team record.

The highly anticipated Ochocinco and Revis showdown went in Revis’ favor. Ochocino had to leave the game after injuring his left knee. He had no catches for the game. An MRI was to be done on Monday.

Ochocinco said Darrelle did a really great job, whether or not I had just one leg.

The sports world today got a very sad reminder of how fleeting life is sometimes when news of the death of Chris Henry, wide receiver of the Cincinnati Bengals, was announced. Henry died from injuries sustained from a Wednesday car related accident.

A lot has been written and said about Henry as well as his off field troubles during his short NFL career. None of those things matter today.

Henry is survived by three children.

For the remainder of the season, the Bengals will be wearing decals with the #15 on their helmets as a tribute for Henry.

The Bengals organization, who drafted him originally, had given Henry a second chance despite all of his troubles. Those close to Henry all say he had been making great strides in terms of improving his character.

Henry was only 26 years old and had a long life ahead of him. A future talking point will certainly be the circumstances that surrounded his death. However, that is something for those who were close to Henry to concern themselves with. For those of us who knew Chris Henry only as a football player, it’s sad to see the NFL lose such a young talent. Those who did know Chris Henry as an individual are sad at losing a family member or friend who left his family behind.

All our best wishes and thoughts for Chris Henry and Henry’s family.

Early in September, we picked the Redskins and Steelers for the Super Bowl. We also left the Ravens off the playoff lineup for the AFC, choosing the Bengals instead. Two months into the season, we aren’t looking quite so stupid.

The Cincinnati Bengals faced the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, with the Raven’s backs against the wall. The Ravens, after losing last month at home to the Bengals, badly needed a win.

But the Bengals held them off.

Their ten point margin of victory wasn’t really that close. During the first quarter the Bengals scored 14 points and really were never threatened in the game, thanks to the defense’s strong effort.

The fourth quarter could have been interesting, but Steven Hauschka, Ravens kicker, missed a field goal from 38 yards that would have cut the Bengals lead to just seven points.

The Ravens now have a 4-4 record and looking up at the Bengals (6-2) and Steelers (5-2). The remainder of their schedule features a pair of games versus the Steelers, a home game versus the Colts and a trip into Lambeau Field.

So we were very wrong when it comes to the Redskins but with the Ravens we’re right on track.

The real test for the Bengals is still coming. Will they be able to avoid playing down to their competition’s level? After a game in Pittsburgh, they will face Oakland, Cleveland and Detroit.

Based on their season performance to date, we wouldn’t be too surprised to see them defeat the Steelers once more, and then scratch and claw in order to take two out of three.

When it comes to the Bengals, it looks like we are going to end up being right. It won’t come close to wiping the egg off our faces concerning the Redskins, but it will help. At least a little.
